VESTAL, N.Y. (AP) — Robert Mansell scored 18 points and Binghamton held off Vermont 57-53 to win its first game of the season Tuesday night, snapping a 27-game losing streak and shedding the dubious distinction of being the only winless team in Division I.

Ben Dickinson added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Bearcats (1-26, 1-13 America East Conference), who ended the Catamounts’ 10-game winning streak. Vermont (19-11, 12-3) defeated Binghamton 73-53 on Jan. 12.

The Bearcats, whose skid included the final game of last season, outshot the Catamounts 53.8 percent (14 of 26) to 31.8 percent (7 of 22) to lead 35-25 at halftime.

Binghamton stretched the lead to 12 in the second half, but Vermont got within two points twice in the final 2:13, the last time with 49 seconds left.

Jimmy Gray hit two free throws with 4 seconds remaining to seal it.

Matt Glass’ 16 points led the Catamounts.
