Boys basketball: Union 68, Franklin 55

The Union Titans handed Franklin of Seattle its first loss of the season to win the Tournament of Champions in Seattle.Tyler Copp made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points to lead the Titans to the 68-55 victory. Micah Paulson added 13 points and Jeff Wu finished with 12.

Union led by six at the half, maintained that lead until the fourth, then held Franklin to 10 points in the final eight minutes.

“The kids did a great job with their pressure. They’re a very athletic team,” Union assistant coach Todd Spike said. “We only had 12 turnovers, and we forced them into 20.

“It was a big step for us.”Copp connected on a 3-pointer with 3 minutes left to give Union a nine-point advantage. The Union defense got a stop on the other end, then Seaver Whalen scored from the paint for an 11-point lead that pretty much wrapped up the victory.
