Two boys, ages 7 and 11, attempted to rob a former Vancouver woman at gunpoint Saturday afternoon, according to a bulletin from the Portland Police Bureau.

Ami Garrett, 22, who now lives in Milwaukie, Ore., was sitting in her truck in the parking lot of Freedom Foursquare Church in southeast Portland when two boys approached her and tried to carjack her.

Garrett told police the 11-year-old lifted his shirt to reveal a .22 caliber handgun and threatened to shoot her, the bulletin said. She refused to give them her truck and drove away. She also called 911.

When police arrived in the area, the 11-year-old told the 7-year-old to run, but both were stopped on the south side of the church. The 11-year-old ignored police commands to keep his hands out of his pockets, the bulletin said. Officers grabbed his arms and recovered the .22 handgun.

The suspects were placed into the custody of their parents. Detectives are investigating how the 11-year-old obtained the firearm.
