MUKILTEO, Wash. (AP) — The Snohomish County city of Mukilteo is thinking of following its southern neighbor’s footsteps and banning plastic bags.
The Everett Herald reports (http://bit.ly/rqv3Pd) that the Mukilteo city council is drafting an ordinance that would be based on Edmond’s 2009 law that banned plastic bags in favor of reusable totes. The Edmonds law gave businesses a year to transition away from plastic and exempted dry-cleaning bags, disposable bags for take-out food and those used in grocery stores for produce and meat.
The proposed ordinance wouldn’t make it to the city council until at least early next year.
