State DNR crews including inmates from Larch Corrections Center, beginning about 4 p.m. are working on three brush fires, the largest about one acre at Cape Horn.

All three fires are along the BNSF Railway tracks in western Skamania County.

Two smaller fires, about a quarter-acre each, are near Prindle and Skamania, said Steve Hartsell, spokesman for the DNR.

No one has been reported injured and no homes or other property have been damaged or believed threatened.

BNSF workers said the two smaller ones were under control.

Crews are working to dig and chop trails around the Cape Horn Fire, Hartsell said.

As of 6 p.m., Hartsell said crews have plenty of equipment to deal with the fires.

In dry weather, it’s common for passing trains to spark fires.
