Letter: New library boosts civic spirit

The Columbian
Published: July 21, 2011, 12:00am

I was among thousands who visited the new Vancouver Community Library on July 17 for its grand opening. As a lifetime resident, I was proud to be part of the festivities and community spirit. The mood was infectiously joyous — and why not? Along with Esther Short Park and Officers Row, downtown Vancouver now has one more showpiece that every resident can enjoy and admire.

I salute everyone involved in the project — from the elected officials and planners, to the library foundation, to the architects and the construction workers. My family and I look forward to many hours perusing the resources and to attending many future community events there. I am confident that the new library will be a cornerstone of our civic spirit for decades to come. And it belongs to us all. Well done.
