Update #2: Portland Police Investigate Fatal Ped Hit and Run

Portland Police Major Crash Team Investigators have determined that vehicle parts left at the scene of this morning’s fatal pedestrian hit and run match a black 90’s era Mercedes Benz, possibly S Class model. The hit and run vehicle will have damage to the right front headlight along with possible hood damage. Investigators are still looking to find this vehicle and identify the white female driver.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team confirmed the identity of the deceased pedestrian from the overnight hit and run. Witnesses told police they saw a black vehicle, possibly a Mercedes Benz, hit 38-year-old Rance Lee Lamb from Southeast Portland as he crossed Southeast Division Street in the 12600 block. Lamb was in the westbound lanes, nearly across the roadway when the vehicle struck him and then left the scene at a high rate of speed. Witnesses described the driver of the vehicle as a white female in her mid to late 20’s.

Police are asking that if anyone has any additional information about this hit and run driver or vehicle to contact Officer Kurronen from the Traffic Division at 503 823-2208.

At approximately 12:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011, Portland Police were called to the 12600 block of Southeast Division Street after callers to 911 reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and was lying in the street. When officers arrived they found a male subject approximately 35 to 40 years old in the street deceased. Witnesses on scene told police the male had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team has been called to the scene to investigate this fatal pedestrian hit and run. Southeast Division Street will be closed to traffic from Southeast 122 Avenue to Southeast 128th Avenue for the next few hours.

An autopsy will be scheduled later today at the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death. Officers onscene have not positively identified the deceased male.

Several witnesses remain on scene and are being interviewed by the Major Crash Team investigators. A vehicle description will be released as soon as available.
