A 15-year-old boy injured Thursday after colliding with an SUV while riding his bicycle in Hazel Dell is now listed in satisfactory condition at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

The boy, Kienen Wayrynen, was initially listed in critical condition late Thursday.

Wayrynen was riding against traffic on a sidewalk on the north side of Northwest 99th Street when he collided with an SUV that was leaving a parking lot just before 4 p.m. The SUV’s driver braked and may have been stopped before her SUV was hit. Wayrynen tried to avoid the SUV and crashed into the front passenger side of the vehicle near the headlights and bumper, said Randon Walker with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Wayrynen is the son of The Columbian’s photo editor, Troy Wayrynen.
