Battle Ground musician Dustin Ruth is finding new ways to reach a wide audience. Recently, three songs from his first solo EP, “Learn How To Love Someone,” were used during episodes of MTV’s “Teen Mom 2.”

“Life’s Not Fair” could be heard during the reality show’s March 15 episode, and “Close Your Eyes” and “Trouble For You Girl” played during the March 29 episode.

This was a first for Ruth, and he hopes it’s the start of more TV and film music placements.

“Just breaking into the market is a big deal,” he said. “Once you get some of those smaller stepping stones, it can really turn the tide.”

The EP is available through iTunes, Amazon and other online retailers, as well as Ruth’s website (http://www.dustinruth.com).

Ruth, the frontman for the local Christian rock band that bears his last name, brings a folk-rock style to his solo music. He has two upcoming shows in Portland, one at Backspace on Friday and one at the Hawthorne Theatre Lounge on May 14.
