Union’s Coulter claims title at Pacific Coast Championships

Four other local wrestlers reach title matches

Union sophomore Clint Coulter defeated Kane Koerner of Zillah 4-2 to win the 189-pound championship at the Pacific Coast Championships on Saturday at Hudson’s Bay.

Coulter was the lone local champion. But Clark County had four wrestlers reach the finals at their weight class.

Placing second were Michael Nguyen of Evergreen (103), Clint Powers of Skyview (119), Cody Wood of Heritage (125), and Kyle Walker of Heritage (145).

Other high placing locals included Jarret Canovas of Evergreen (third at 112), Austen Frazier of Heritage (fifth at 119), Emilio Alcantar of Hudson’s Bay (fourth at 130), Ricky Simon of Union (fifth at 145), Robert Clasey of Evergreen (fourth at 189), Tim Peraza of Evergreen (third at 215) and Dean Rogers of Heritage (fourth at 285).

Graham-Kapowsin won the team title with 176 points over second place W.F West of Chehalis (162.5). Evergreen was the top placing local team, finishing sixth. Heritage was 13th and Union 18th.

Gymnastics

Duran, River top Winterfest — Hudson’s Bay Taisha Duran took all-around honors and Columbia River edge Camas for the team title Saturday at the Winterfest gymnastics invitational at Naydenov Gymnastics.

Duran scored a 9.6 to win the vault and placed second on the bars (8.9) on her way to finishing with an all-around score of 35.9.

Columbia River’s Jennifer DeBellis placed second to Duran in the all-around (35.65), won the bars (9.3) and placed second on the beam (9.1).

River’s Jordan Hess won the beam (9.2) and finished third in the all-around (34.65). Camas’ Amy Siebenthal won the floor exercise (9.55)

Columbia River won the team title with 149.6 points, just ahead of Camas (148.6). Heritage was third at 142.75.
