Looking for a fun project in the month ahead?
Or a chance to stretch your multimedia skills?
Here’s something: A new, “VSTORIES: Facebooking Your Story” contest, sponsored by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District and the Digital Technology & Culture program at Washington State University Vancouver.
Entrants of all ages are invited to share stories digitally, for the first-time contest that runs April 5-30.
Weekly themes will challenge individuals or teams to use a blend of text, audio and visual tools.
(For further details, go to the “Vstories” tab on that page.)
Each submission will be judged for its number of Facebook-like “clicks,” ability to engender quality conversation, how compelling it is, artistic intent, best use of the medium, originality, and whether the entrant has an FVRL library card.
Weekly winners will each receive $50 Amazon.com gift cards. A grand prize winner receives an Apple iPad digital tablet.
Entries must address the current week’s Vstories theme to be considered. Late entries will be disqualified.
The themes are:
• Week 1, “Home”: Tell a story using still images or a slide show. Runs 8 a.m. Monday through 11:59 p.m. April 9.
• Week 2, “Alternate Reality”: Tell a story from someone else’s perspective. Runs 8 a.m. April 12 through 11:59 p.m. April 16.
• Week 3, “Journey”: Tell a story by remixing and repurposing data. Runs 8 a.m. April 19 through 11:59 p.m. April 23.
• Week 4, “Tomorrow”: Tell a story using video. Runs 8 a.m. April 26 through 11:59 p.m. April 30.
Weekly winners will be announced by 5 p.m. the following Monday (that’s April 12, 19, 26 and May 3).
The grand prize winner will be revealed on FVRL’s Facebook page on May 7.
Prizes are provided by the FVRL Foundation and local business management company Milam-Imse Consulting.
