Ben Stokes is the new executive director of cardiovascular services at Southwest Washington Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Center. Stokes, a Washougal resident, is completing his master's degree in health care administration at Western Governors University in Salt Lake City.

Andrew Long has been named director of advising at Clark College. Long has experience as an instructor, academic ombudsman and program director in support of student success. A native of England, he graduated from the University of Essex in Colchester.

Russell Brent, who has a bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management and a master's degree in service management, has been named chairman of the YMCA board of managers.

Jamie Nocula is the new membership-marketing director at the Clark County Family YMCA. Nocula previously worked for seven years at a fitness franchise.

Jared Short has been named president of Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon. Regence, the largest not-for-profit insurer in the Northwest-Intermountain Region, also serves Southwest Washington.

Dr. Allen Gabriel, with Southwest Medical Group Plastic Surgery, was asked by several colleagues in the field to submit chapters for four international plastic surgery textbooks. Altogether he had seven different chapters published recently. Gabriel is a graduate of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Las Vegas and completed his plastic surgery fellowship at Baptist Hospital/Nashville Plastic Surgery. His special interest is in wound healing.

New businesses

Hadassah Salon and Spa has opened at 9705 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave. Mali White started Mali's Shears and Nails in 2001 and in June moved her staff into her new salon in Hazel Dell. The salon offers a range of spa services. Hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with evening appointments available. 360-574-5501.
