SkyWatch: No shivers this Fourth of July

Thursday, July 2 | 6:30 p.m.

BY BRUCE SUSSMAN

I still remember Fourth of July last year. My kids were trying to swim in the tiny pool we put out in the backyard each year. They were shivering after the sun went down. The high in Vancouver was just 74 degrees and by fireworks time, we were into the 60s. I don’t think we’ll see anyone shivering this year!

Fourth of July will get hot fast, hitting 80 or so by lunchtime and then climbing into the 90s before the day is done. At sunset, which is just after nine o’clock, we’ll see temperatures around 79 or 80 degrees. Wow, what a difference from last year!

If you are looking for a cooler fourth of July, one idea is to head north on I-5. Seattle will only be in the mid 80s, or you could go west to Long Beach where highs will be around 70.

The weather will begin to cool down as we head into Sunday with daytime highs lowering a bit into the mid and upper 80s. However, the big cool down will come on Monday lasting into early next week as we see some cooler and cloudier weather drop in out of the north. Highs for much of next week will be in the 70s. So if you are a fan of the hot weather, soak it up now!
