Speak up about light-rail placement at meeting

Tuesday, June 30 | 11:32 p.m.

THE COLUMBIAN

On one side, you’ve got a light-rail planning body called the Vancouver Working Group advocating that McLoughlin Boulevard carry an eventual light-rail line between downtown Vancouver and Clark College. It was a nine-to-eight vote that picked McLoughlin over 17th Street, a block to the south.

On the other side, you’ve got the Arnada Neighborhood Association, where support is building for the 17th Street option because it’s considered more compatible from zoning to building heights to retention of on-street parking — not to mention far less expensive right-of-way acquisition costs.

Arnada is getting ready to register its formal opposition to the McLoughlin recommendation. But before it does, the neighborhood association wants to hear from as many tenants, landlords, businesspeople and residents of area in question — and the whole neighborhood — as possible.

The topic will be discussed at the next Arnada Neighborhood Association meeting, 7 p.m. July 9 at the Vancouver Housing Authority building, 2500 Main St.
