One workout prospect is out

Saturday, June 13 | 3:24 p.m.

BY BRIAN HENDRICKSON

The deadline for draft prospects to pull their names out of the draft and return to their colleges for another season is upon us, and one of the players who worked out for Portland last week is among the first to bail out.

Texas' Damion James, who worked out for Portland on June 9, withdrew his name on Saturday and will return to the Longhorns for his senior year -- a move that was largely expected because James could not be guaranteed a spot in the first round.

Here's what ESPN.com's Andy Katz had to say:

James informed Texas coach Rick Barnes late Friday night that he would be returning for his senior season, according to a Texas spokesperson. James canceled a workout that was scheduled for Saturday in New Jersey. The deadline to withdraw from the June 25 draft is 5 p.m. ET Monday. ...
James was invited to the NBA draft combine in Chicago, but wasn't convincing enough there, or in individual team workouts, to make him a first-round pick.
