More Darius news: Players Association to file grievance

Friday, January 9 | 2:40 p.m.

BY BRIAN HENDRICKSON

It just doesn't stop. In fact, it's getting tough to keep pace with all the developments in the Darius Miles saga.

Now, the NBA Players Association is filing a grievance against the Blazers because of the e-mail it sent out Thursday night threatening litigation against anyone who signs Miles in an attempt to disrupt the Blazers' salary cap and luxury tax situation.

Here is the statement:

NBPA TO FILE GRIEVANCE AGAINST PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS

STATEMENT OF NBPA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR G. WILLIAM HUNTER
REGARDING THE TRAIL BLAZERS ILLEGAL CONDUCT

NEW YORK (January 9, 2009)—“We are shocked at the brazen attempt by the Portland Trail Blazers to try to prevent Darius Miles from continuing his NBA career. Their attempt to intimidate the other 29 NBA teams by threatening frivolous litigation merely for signing this capable NBA veteran is a clear violation of the anti-collusion and other provisions of our Collective Bargaining Agreement. We will vigorously defend Darius’ rights”.
