Horizon offering 'flood fares'

Horizon Airlines has begun offering discounted “flood fare” tickets for flights between Portland International Airport and Seattle.

“With Interstate 5 closed and rail service unavailable we’re trying to help a little by clearing a number of seats (for these fares)," said Jen Boyer, Horizon media relations manager. A percentage of seats on Horizon Portland-Seattle flights are being sold at $119 one-way, a discount from the usual $149. But not all seats on Horizon’s 25 flights a day are available at that price, said Boyer.

“We are encouraging people to get to the Web site early to see what’s available,” she said. Horizon expects to continue the flood fare offer through Saturday when state highway officials said Interstate 5 would likely reopen.

Horizon also hopes to add more flight to the Portland-Seattle schedule, Boyer said.

“We’ll be up to 28 flights on Friday,” she said. “But we’re making these adjustments one day at a time. To check out the Web site, go to http://www.alaskaair.com/reservations/
