Beginning Monday, Jan. 12, bankrupt toy seller KB Toys Inc. will not accept prepaid gift cards at any of its 460 nationwide stores, including the company’s Westfield Vancouver mall location.
The Pittsfield, Mass-based toy retailer has notified the Washington state Attorney General’s Office of the cutoff date for the gift cards. A press release from the state office said people with gift cards can visit KBToys.com to replace the cards with certificates that are good for online purchases.
KB Toys filed Chapter 11 in early December. It is unclear whether KB Toys will close its Vancouver store.

This is sheer greed working...to NOT accept PREPAID gift cards is an example of the raging greed in our credit and major retailers' venue. Can we ever, truly, trust any retail venue again.A week ago, my husband and I were parked in front of Jantzen Beach's Office Depot store. My husband went in, I was going to go to the Linens n Things store. I found THAT store closed and empty, but a couple of women came up and were extremely dismayed by the closure because one of them had a "gift card" of $300 from that store. The card holder was extremely upset and asked about any other store locations. I stated that I was just another potential customer.
Our whole retail industry is going bust...why? When you have the same shop/store on every corner of America, SOME of those stores will not flourish and will become "dead weight" for the "mother store". When there are five stores in a three mile area, at least three stores will not survive. Darwin's "survival of the fittest" becomes a reality.
