Less work at the Port of Vancouver

Monday, December 15 | 3:41 p.m.

COURTNEY SHERWOOD

This afternoon I talked to Brad Clark, president of the International Longshoremen's & Warehousemen's Union No 4 at the Port of Vancouver, and asked him how things are going.

"It's slowed down quite a bit, the whole coast has," Clark said. "It looks like we may have some tough times ahead. It's kind of scary. We're positioned as well as or better than most other ports, because the new administration is talking about infrastructure. we're assuming that's going to include alternative energy, windmills and that stuff."

How long has the downturn been affecting the port?

"We really started feeling it over the last month," Clark said. "When the economy's good, we're booming. When the economy's bad we feel it just like everybody else."
