A 70-year-old fisherman who went missing Sunday night was found safe overnight, the U.S. Coast Guard reported this morning.

Jerald K. Posey was found in his boat on the Columbia River near St. Helens, Ore., just before 1 a.m.

Searchers from Clark and Cowlitz counties and the U.S. Coast Guard mounted the search after Posey's wife called 911. She told dispatchers her husband left to fish alone and usually returns at nightfall, according to Clark County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Schanaker.

The man from the Felida area reportedly departed from the Ridgefield boat launch, but encountered thick fog and got lost, authorities said.
