George A. Veech, who works at Vancouver Neurologists, has passed his certification in neurology. Before joining Vancouver Neurologists, Veech served as a staff physician in anesthesia/pain at Grove Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.

Tim Cross has been promoted to vice president of Small Business Banking Group at First Independent. Cross, with 12 years experience in the industry, before joining First Independent in 2007.

Todd J. Bartholomew, an independent insurance advisor, has joined Camas-based Senior Market Services. Bartholomew will be responsible for expanding self-funded small and mid-sized group health businesses.

David Commeree, product director with New Tradition Homes, was elected president of the board of trustees of Columbia River Mental Health Services at the annual meeting on Oct. 20. Other officers include David Bennett, CEO of Northwest Surgical Specialists, vice president; Garry Lucas, Clark County Sheriff, secretary; and Michelle Howell, certified public accountant, treasurer. The Foundation provides professional mental health services for 7,000 Clark County residents.

Tommy Owens of Tommy O’s in downtown Vancouver is among five recipients of Bank of America’s Portland/Vancouver Local Heroes neighborhood Excellence Initiative Award. In recognition of their dedication to Portland-Vancouver area neighborhoods, each local hero may direct a $5,000 grant from the bank’s Charitable Foundation to an eligible nonprofit organization of their choice. Owens is directing his contribution to the Children’s Center.

Columbia Credit Union welcomes Todd Shobert to the Wealth Management team. Shobert, a registered representative for Financial Network Investment Corporation, will assist members with their retirement goals, offering customized investment strategies and insurance services.

Kim Anderson was selected as the new U.S. Postal Service Portland District Manager. Anderson will oversee all Postal Service operations in Oregon and Southwest Washington. He most recently served as Portland’s senior plant manager at the Portland Processing & Distribution Center and a is a 31-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service.

The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce recently hired Darcy Altizer as membership services director. Altizer has a degree in business and leadership and is a 2009 Leadership Clark County class member. Susie Bauder was hired to work with the chamber’s programs and events team. She has experience in event planning, sales and marketing and management.

Brent Dixson, a graduate of Western States Chiropractic College, has joined Absolute Life Chiropractic, 9418 N.E. Vancouver Mall Drive. Dixson is a resident of Washougal.

Janet Turner, who worked in the financial aid department at Clark College for seven years, has been named director of financial aid at the University of Portland. Turner, who has a degree in digital technology and culture from Washington State University Vancouver, is a resident of Vancouver.


Other business news

Wells Fargo has passed the $2 billion in lending for Leadership in energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified buildings. LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based green building rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council for constructing high-performance, sustainable building. Since 2007, Wells Fargo has contributed nearly $500,000 to nonprofit organizations in support of green building education and practices.
