With the economy in a tailspin, many people may be reluctant to spend $100 on a lavish, store-bought Halloween costume. Fortunately there are many costumes that can be fashioned from items found around the house and at the local drugstore.
USA Today lists some suggestions inspired by pop culture and recent news headlines: Sarah Palin/Tina Fey, the cast of "Mad Men" or "Gossip Girl," the Jonas Brothers, Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, even Joe the Plumber.
These costumes are tongue-in-cheek and trendy and won't break the bank.
