What "adult supervision"? From the "rob from the poor and give to rich" group, or the "tax and spend as fast as you can" group? And some of you want to leave your basic health care to these delinquents?by Jim Jones : 10/3/08 1:40pm - Report Abuse
There were many other ways to address this problem. Taking money and handing it over to the banks so they can then turn around and loan it back to us WITH INTEREST is not it! Not to mention the pork that was added to the bill. When will that money be repaid Mr. Baird? It won't. The passage of this bill was unnecessary. I, and many people I know, will not be voting for you again.by Craig Williams : 10/3/08 2:02pm - Report Abuse
With all due respect, doing nothing was a better long-term option than helping Wall Street and the second bill was worse than the first.by Dudley Doright : 10/3/08 2:49pm - Report Abuse

Fortunately, we have the extremely thoughtful Michael Delavar as an alternative to Baird on November 4. Michael has been sounding the alarm for some time, in contrast to Brian Baird watching disaster unfold without realizing what was happening. Now Brian gives us the most expensive band-aid in history. Enough already. Please vote Delavar.by Tiger Lily : 10/3/08 5:55pm - Report Abuse
There were a number of other viable options available, including DiFazio's plan, that have already proven to be successful, either in our own history or in other countries (Japan banking crisis, 1998, to name but one).by Dave Mountford : 10/3/08 8:09pm - Report Abuse
Baird, you didn't listen to the people you're suppose to be representing. You're fired. It's time to give the position to Delavar.by Bob Zak : 10/3/08 8:57pm - Report Abuse
The entire congress should be replaced. This mess did not happen overnight. Even though President Bush should have been alert to this via Paulson and the Fed as well as Cox at the SEC, he/they were not and have some responsibility here. BUT, listen to the video clips from 2003 when Barney Frank and his guys resisted controls and oversight of Freddy and Fanny when the Bush administration tried to get controls. Now the "grandeur" of Barney taking credit for this and Palosi criticizing the President on this. That is the pot calling the kettle black. The real fault lies with the congress. I think the public might be waking up since congress' rating is lowest of any at 10 to 14% depending on which day you are looking. Yes, I am mad and mad at the media for the cover up. There is only one candidate of the three that is from outside the Beltway, Palin. Obama, if the truth gets out, is up to his eyeballs in the Freddy - Fanny scandal. He and others have financially benefited from this. Paulson and the SEC Cox guy should resign as well as Barney Frank from his committee chair position. We need a fresh face that is not tied into the corruption and greed on Wall St that has poisoned our financial system. The only one is the McCain-Palin team. I believe that McCain has more credibility in this mess that Obama-Biden.by Lulu Sagan : 10/3/08 9:50pm - Report Abuse
It is refeshing to see that all the repubes are in lock step with their masters. No original thought, just following blindly as instructed.I say "good job"! It will be fun to watch the implosion on Nov. 4by Lulu Sagan : 10/4/08 1:20am - Report Abuse

The time is NOW to take our country back. It does not belong to the elite. I'm so disappointed in Baird. I've always been a good democrat and voted that way. Now I'm going to be a good American and vote him right out of office. He has forgotten who he works for....WE THE PEOPLE!!! First he changed his stance on the war....which really upset me......and now voting for this immoral unconstituional bailout. He is not representing his constituents anymore. We need this war to end and stop anymore bailouts for the banks and corporate interest. The taxpayers cannot afford it. On another note....we need to really start looking at what and who runs the federal reserve. Its not really a federal entity and it doesn't reserve. We need to wake up and comprehend who really runs this country and our representatives. So...in closing....this is why I think its time for a new congressman. Michael Delavar is an honest, hard working man who wants to restore our beloved country. Bring back the Constitution! Yes...the Constitution. Not many politicians seem to remember it anymore. Its the document they all swear to defend. From enemies foreign and DOMESTIC! Lets stop being good Republicans and good Democrats and start being good Americans again. If we don't soon....we may not have our country long. God Bless America!by Tiger Lily : 10/4/08 4:24pm - Report Abuse
All these people with their hands out for their payoff/welfare payment....it's disgraceful.by Jay Gee : 10/4/08 4:50pm - Report Abuse
Yes this is all Bush's fault there was no growing housing bubble during clinton years noooooo. It's republican fault the democrats resisted controls to Fannie/Freddie? Claiming to enact controls is anti-poor and similar rhetoric. Well welcome to the results Dem's. Your party is in control of the house, you get to inherit the shame of this bailout. You may even succeed in electing the america hating communist loving terrorist connected obamination that is Barack, and I say bravo! The country needs a reminder why your ideas will never work. It is worth 4 years to serve up that reminder.by Penny Schinke : 10/4/08 8:59pm - Report Abuse
I don't know that you can slap the Repubs for this vote as of those that voted "yes", Dems numbered 172, Repubs 91; of those voting "no", Dems were 63, Repubs 108.by Penny Schinke : 10/4/08 9:50pm - Report Abuse
BTW, what is this "sales tax deductibility"?!? I know that Oregonians can get by with not paying our sales tax...but how can WA citizens deduct sales tax...and, if we can, how does THAT bring more money into the state coffers? The last I read, WA was suffering because it was losing the tax money from sales because people weren't buy as much due to the economy. Could someone explain, please???by Always Right : 10/4/08 10:00pm - Report Abuse
george bush fullfilling his promise..." I have political capital and now I intend to spend it..." from his post election speech. yes our president george bush is spending his "elected capital" BUT not on/for main street voters ( jane and joe six pack) HOWEVER he is spending his "political capital" on oil companies and wall street robber barons, right before the eyes of the people who voted for it/him. I'm taking my monney and personally handle it myself...away from the greedy hands of wall street. I suggest others do the same.by Always Right : 10/4/08 10:13pm - Report Abuse
it is hard to believe that our congress person brian baird "switched over" to president shrubs side. he was elected to represent "historic/evident democrat values". one wonders "what lobbyist firm" brian will work for when he is voted out of office.
