Get rid of block foam Oct. 4

Friday, September 26 | 10:05 a.m.

ERIK ROBINSON, COLUMBIAN STAFF WRITER

Is block foam piling up in your basement?

Clark County residents will have another opportunity to recycle the packing material during a daylong event Saturday, Oct. 4, at Clark College.

The free collection event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m in the Yellow 1 parking lot at Clark College, off Fort Vancouver Way.

Total Reclaim, a Portland recycling business, takes all the foam and uses it to produce pellets that maintain the same quality as new plastic. The collection program on Oct. 4 also allows businesses to bring in small loads -- no bigger than what will fit into a passenger or cargo van -- at no charge.

The site accepts polystyrene and polypropylene block foam, which must be clean and bagged or boxed. No plastic wrapped yellow urethane foam or packing peanuts will be accepted.

For more information, contact Clark County Solid Waste at 360-397-6118, Ext. 4352 or the city of Vancouver Solid Waste Services at 360-619-4122.
