The Washington State Patrol says former Chief George Tellevik died over the weekend of cancer at the age of 74.
Tellevik was chief from 1985 to 1993.
Chief John Batiste says Tellevik was particularly interested in quickly helping people with disabled cars. Batiste says Tellevik also sought outside accreditation for the patrol and made sure that potential leaders received training.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
