A new Parkrose Hardware coming to central Vancouver

Store to be in Garrison Square, which has a new name, The Mill

A new Parkrose Hardware will be opening in a central Vancouver shopping center that is getting an upgrade as well as a new name.

The Parkrose Hardware will open at the center that until now has been known as Garrison Square, at East Mill Plain Boulevard and Garrison Road. The center’s owner, the Vancouver-based Killian Pacific development firm, said this week that the center will now be known as The Mill.

Parkrose Hardware will open the 16,000-square-foot store this fall following renovation of the building that until recently housed an Ace Hardware store. Killian Pacific did not renew the lease for the Ace Hardware store.

Killian Pacific said the original wood ceiling structure will be exposed as part of the building renovation. The store also will have a natural concrete finish floor, and energy-efficient LED lighting will be installed.

The Portland-based hardware chain, founded 50 years ago by Bob and Gloria Ableidinger, was acquired in June 2014 by Memphis, Tenn.-based Central Network Retail Group. There are two other Parkrose Hardware stores — in east Vancouver at 16509 S.E. First St., and the flagship store at 10625 N.E. Sandy Blvd. in Portland.

Killian Pacific said the shopping center, under its new name The Mill, also is being upgraded and that the company would announce new businesses in the coming months. Major renovations will bring “an updated and inviting Pacific Northwest authentic aesthetic to the buildings,” Killian Pacific said. The changes include exposed wood decking, exposed beam ceilings , and concrete floors. In addition, a covered “four-season” outdoor dining area and uncovered outdoor gathering areas will be added, with restaurant, food and beverage vendors, the company said. Hours of operation will be extended.

Garrison Square’s tenants include Planet Fitness, Manning Academy of Cosmetology and Mexico Lindo restaurant.

“Our intent is to create a unique mix of largely locally owned restaurant, retail and personal service businesses to provide a compelling destination for the residents and employees in this area of central Vancouver,” said Lance Killian, president of Killian Pacific.
